Pronombres reflexivos

En otras lecciones has aprendido pronombres personales y posesivos. En esta lección aprenderás otro tipo de pronombres, los pronombre reflexivos (reflexive pronouns).

¿Qué son los pronombres reflexivos?

Cuando queremos hablar de algo que hacemos a nosotros mismos, agregamos "self" (singular) o "selves" (plural) al pronombre para convertirlo en un pronombre reflexivo.

• myself (mí mismo)
  I see myself in the mirror.
  Me veo (a mí mismo) en el espejo.
• himself (sí mismo, él)
  He sees himself in the mirror.
  Él se ve en el espejo.
• herself (sí mismo, ella)
  She sees herself in the mirror.
  Ella se ve en el espejo.
• itself (sí mismo, objetos)
  The robot sees itself in the mirror.
  El robot se ve en el espejo.
• yourself (ti mismo)
  You see yourself in the mirror.
  Te ves en el espejo.
• yourselves (ustedes / vosotros mismos)
  You see yourselves in the mirror.
  Ustedes se ven (vosotros os veis) en el espejo.
• ourselves (nosotros mismos)
  We see ourselves in the mirror.
  Nos vemos en el espejo.
• themselves (ellos mismos)
  They see themselves in the mirror.
  Ellos se ven en el espejo.

¿Cúando se usan los pronombres reflexivos?

Como hemos dicho arriba, se usan los pronombres reflexivos cuando hacemos algo a nosotros mismos:

• I cut myself with a knife.
  Me corté con un cuchillo.
• I burned myself.
  Me quemé.
• I made myself a sandwich.
  Me hice un bocadillo.
• I taught myself to play the piano.
  Aprendí yo solo a tocar el piano (Literalmente, "Me enseñé a tocar el piano".)

Pero cuando son acciones que obviamente hacemos a nosotros mismos, omitimos el pronombre reflexivo:

• I showered.
  Me duché. (no suelo duchar a otras personas, solo a mí mismo, así que omito "myself")
• I shaved.
  Me afeité.
• I remember.
  Me acuerdo.
• I worry.
  Me preocupo.
• I wonder.
  Me pregunto.

Usamos pronombres reflexivos cuando hacemos algo nosotros mismos

Por ejemplo si lavas el coche sin ayuda de otros, quizás dirás: "I washed the car myself." (Yo mismo lavé el coche)

• You said it yourself.
  Tú mismo lo has dicho.
• We made dinner ourselves.
  Hicimos la cena nosotros mismos.
• If you want it done right, do it yourself.
  Si lo quieres bien hecho, hazlo tú mismo.

Es también común decir que hemos hecho algo "by ourselves", nosotros solos.

• He ate the entire pizza by himself.
  Comió el pizza entera él solo.
• Did she travel to Europe by herself?
  ¿Viajó sola a Europa?

Expresiones reflexivas con "GET"

En algunas expresiones usamos "get" en vez "myself", "yourself", etc. Por ejemplo en español se dice "me caso", pero en inglés no tendría sentido decir "I marry myself". ¡Indicaría que te casas contigo mismo! Así que decimos "I get married." Más ejemplos con "get":
