La diferencia entre "in", "at" y "on"

Estas tres preposiciones, "in", "at" y "on" confunden mucho porque se usan un poco diferente que en español. La preposición "en" puede ser o "in" o "at" u "on" en inglés dependiendo del contexto. Aquí aclaro las diferencias esenciales entre estas preposiciones.

Se usa "in" para indicar adentro

"In" implica que algo o alguien está adentro de algo. Normalmente en un espacio cerrado, por ejemplo en una caja o en un cuarto, pero también se usa para decir que estamos en ciudades, países, etc. Por ejemplo:

• My phone is in my pocket.
  Mi teléfono está en el bolsillo.
• The water bottle is in the bag.
  La botella de agua está en la bolsa.
• The cat is in the kitchen.
  El gato está en la cocina.
• He's in the bathroom.

  Estoy en Barcelona.
• I'm in Spain.
  Estoy en España.

Se usa "on" para indicar encima

Si algo o alguien está encima de otra cosa (por ejemplo, una mesa, la acera, el techo de un edificio, etc.), usamos la preposición "on". Por ejemplo:

  Camina por la acera.
• The store is on Beale Street.

También se usa "on" cuando entramos en grandes medios de transporte como el bus, el tren, un avión, etc.

• He's on the boat.
  Está en el barco.
• I got on the train.
  He subido al tren.
• Get on the bus.
  Sube al autobús.

Se usa "at" para decir dónde estamos en concreto

Para referirnos a lugares donde vamos, solemos usar la preposición "at". Para decir dónde estamos, por ejemplo, diríamos:

In front of

"In front of" quiere decir "en frente de". Por ejemplo:

• He's in front of you.
  Está en frente de ti.

Behind

"Behind" es el contrario de "in front of". Quiere decir "detrás".

Under, below

"Under" y "below" básicamente son sinónomos y quieren decir "debajo de". Por ejemplo:

above

"Above" es el contrario de "below" y quiere decir "sobre" o "encima de". Por ejemplo:

Between

"Between" quiere decir "entre" o "en medio de". Por ejemplo:

Beside, next to

"Beside" y "next to" son sinónomos y quieren decir "al lado de". Por ejemplo:
